Domestic Uses
Bird Food
Not only do Dendrobaena worms compost and recycle your domestic waste, they can also create a new rich and varied eco-system in your own garden.
Garden birds tend to fall into two categories: seed feeders and insect feeders. Bird tables and bird feeders will attract the seed feeders, and our dendrobaena worms will attract the insect feeders.
They are particularly tasty to birds such as thrushes, blackbirds and woodpeckers because they are an excellent source of protein for their young as well as vitamins and essential minerals.
Winter is a particularly tough time for these birds, and providing a year-round supply of fresh juicy worms will encourage the birds back to your garden. Our worms are bred in temperateure regulated greenhouses to ensure that we have a year-round supply to match your demand.
Hedgehog Food
Hedgehogs are great for gardens, as they eat slugs and plant-destroying insects. Worms are a juicy succulent treat for hedgehogs, and they will re-visit gardens rich in worms. Hedgehogs are nocturnal creatures, and as dendrobaeana worms are light-sensitive, they are also at their most active at night. A hedgehog can eat up to 200g of insects in one night, and while immune to some insecticides, need to have their diet supplemented with chemical-free worms to ensure they stay healthy.
For Plants
Plants will thrive in your new organic garden because the wormcasts make the soil richer, so you won't need chemical fertilisers. Additionally, the hedgehogs that are encouraged to visit, are natural pest controllers, and will also eat those insects harmful to plants, such as greenfly and slugs.
