Budgeting: What You Need to Know
It will take between 8 months and a year from the initial set up to produce your first saleable/ usable adult worms.You will produce adult worms before this point, but you need to retain enough to sustain the wormery.
There is an initial outlay to buy the equipment and worms, which works out at approximately £10 for every £1 worth of worms. After that, there are only heating, lighting and packaging costs, so your break-even point is approximately 2 years after you start.
You should however bear in mind that production can decrease over the winter unless you are able to store your worms in a heated location, so do build this into your budget.
