Wormeries

Organic WormeriesWormeries are an excellent eco-friendly alternative to domestic refuse, allowing you to recycle at home, while also creating nutrient-rich fertilizer.

Dendrobaena wormeries are low maintenance, and do not smell unless you are overfeeding or overwatering the wormery. Click here for more information on  caring for your worms.

We only use dendrobaena worms as these are the best composting worms around.

What You Need in Your Wormery

A Worm Bin: Worm bins are specially designed compartmentalised containers, which can be made from just about anything. Polystyrene bins can be poisonous to the worms making them sluggish and less hungry, while metal bins can get very hot and wooden ones will eventually rot and need replacing. Se we use sturdy plastic for the best balance. Your bin needs to have air holes to allow the compost to be oxygenated, and also to allow excess moisture to escape.

Worms! You need approximately 1kg of worms per cubic metre of soil.

Food: Your worms will eat the organic waste that you feed them, but they need to get started, so we provide sufficient layer palette to help your worms build up an appetite. Many wormeries come with calcified lime, but our worms don't need this as they get plenty of calcium from the layer palette.

Soil: A mixture of peat and paper mulch provides a rich habitat for the worms, and plenty of food for when they are not eating the layer palette.
